It just becomes yours. So I've quickly moved from like, oh, God, like, why don't you guys just take that over and like, okay. Because I knew it was going to happen anyway. Speaker C: Time to hire someone else. Speaker B: Yeah. Which we did. And then we let them go. That. That hack that we had on some wallets kind of put things in perspective, I think, for people at the company. But we had a road map of eventually we try to work ourselves out of a job and then just everyone folds into different groups participating in the ecosystem. Because they all were popular. They want us because we're like core members of the technology, but we hired all these people on. And then the hack happened, and it was kind of like a timeline needs to be much shorter. Like, the head shed was like, nope, we're gonna shrink this down, like, three times faster than we planned. So it's kind of like, let's get lean and mean. And it's like, okay, as long as it's realistic. It's borderline. Speaker A: There's lean and then there's bones. Speaker B: Yeah. My thing is just I gotta be much younger than I am to keep up with some of these people. It's very, very fast paced. The tech is interesting, though. I'm not even like. The blockchain is like. It's a blockchain. But that's not the part of the tech that's cool. That's the distributed artificial intelligence stuff they're doing. Speaker A: That's the part that's cool. Speaker B: That's very fly by the city of your pants. Speaker A: It's come a long way. Speaker B: It's paying my bills. Speaker A: Come along way for searching for alien life. Speaker B: Yeah, right. Wasn't you I was talking to about the guy who did City at home for the school district? Speaker A: Was that it could have been. Speaker B: I need. Speaker A: It's been there for years. It was the first distributed network I really bumped into. Speaker B: Yeah. Speaker A: And I remember the Shelley doing it up in the labs. Speaker B: Oh, did she really? Speaker A: Yeah, for a while there were a. Speaker B: Lot of schools that were doing that with like, the regular compute. But there was a guy in California that got fired. He might have got A lawsuit against him. But he was actually not only. Well, it started out, I'm just going to use, like, some computers. Then it was more computers than it was, like, the district's computers. And then he was buying extra hardware and then storing it in different pockets around, you know, schools and campuses and stuff to do SETI at home. He was just. He just kept escalating to the point where he was buying tens of thousands of dollars of extra computers to do SETI at home. I really wanted to find some alien life. Yeah. Speaker A: First the district didn't know what was going on. Then all of a sudden they started. Speaker B: Getting these weird bills, power bills, just like, oh, yeah. How you doing? Speaker D: Good, Good. Speaker B: I pointed out above today because they announced, like, oh, we're moving. We moved all this stuff into test, and we're going to move it into production. And each has to update these public nodes that people use. Speaker A: And I'm like, I need an older. Speaker B: Version of this software there for a reason. Because it just works. And people can download newer versions of the software themselves. And we encourage them to. But for a while, people have been having some bugs. They have a component that talks to the chain and software that talks to the thing that talks to the chain. And you have to have those, like, it's reasonable to say, try to use those within a certain number of versions. Difference from each other. Speaker A: Yeah, you want your dominoes to do a lot. Speaker B: They're two software packages, and our group trains on or tests on that. These two software packages are within, you know, the certain version range from each other because they kind of leapfrog a little bit. But these nodes are like seven months old. But they were built before I got here, so they're at least seven months. They might be 10 months old. And, like, you're leapfrogging 10 months of stuff onto these nodes that people are relying on. And I was like, go search for this error phrase in our Discord chat. And they commute across, like, all the groups, 50 different groups participating, like, go search. It's just massive numbers of people going, I have this error all the time. I'm like, I've been talking about this for months. And they're asking me about when this update's rolling out. So I'm telling them to go test their stuff in our test environment because this new version is sitting there waiting to come out. And they're like, well, when's it coming out? How much time do I have to test? What's going to happen? Is it going to break? I'm like, you're asking me developer questions. You need to answer the developer questions. I started looking at it and going, yeah, we should probably wait to push that out. They were talking about, like pushing it on Monday and I'm like, so this. Today's just been. Last few days have been kind of this panic all of a sudden. Speaker A: Let's move faster. Speaker B: I'm like, still got to execute. Speaker A: Well, hey, at least I didn't wait till Thanksgiving break when everybody's out. Speaker B: This was just pretty good about that. Ironically, considering that the rest of the time we're like, go, go, go, go, go. It's easy on paper to be like, oh, we're going to do dev test prod, but can we prod instead of devtest prod? Which is kind of what it feels like most times. Speaker A: I can turn it on. Yay. Speaker C: Put it out pretty much. Speaker B: It's always a battle. So it's a flexibility and execution battle. Startups are all about can you execute? But that's a very subjective what good execution looks like. Speaker A: Did you take down the network? Speaker D: No. Speaker A: Good job. Speaker B: Yep. Like every startup has one of these guys and it's some engineer guy who's like, he's got like a Russian or Czech accent and he's just on his. On his computer type of stuff and like, hey, did you get that new upgrade out? We need it for the demo tomorrow. He's like, oh, don't worry, it's no problem. Like, I'll have it in a few hours. It's a couple hours later. It shows him playing like NBA, some NBA email on his computer with a control like, hey, is the update. It's like, no problem, I already pushed it to main. He's like, push it to main. He's like, it's a demo for the demo. He's like, it's okay, I already tested it. He's like, we didn't ask permission for that library we're going to use. He's like, that's okay, I wrote that library. He's like, everything he's doing is like, I've taken care of it somehow. Is the network going up and down for you? It's like, oh, yeah, I'm load testing a new piece of software that I wrote. It's like he's always got something somewhere going on, you know, like every startup's got one or Two of those. Speaker A: That's like, before we go further, sign this. It means you work for us in perpetuity, so. Because when you leave, we won't know what you did. Speaker B: We had this where, like, one of our servers was getting just blasted with a sudden, like, massive amount of traffic. So we're like looking around and looking up IPs. We're like, we're about to block this thing. One of the guys is like, what's that? Dev team? Because they're doing all that testing. So we asked them, they're like, oh, yeah, we're doing this thing. And it's just absolutely assaulting the server with like thousands of queries. And we're like, can you guys let us know before you do this stuff? Like, that's us. Speaker A: It's a test burn. Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Well, some of that stuff, it's like, what's $100 an hour when you do that? You know, Just want you to know. Yeah, it's. If it's fun, I enjoy it. But, man, there's times where it's like, you guys, I gotta sleep. Speaker A: Kind of caught the nail. It's like developers and users and then being that piece in the middle. Speaker B: Yes. You understand you've worked on many functional teams where you have to bear the down to. Speaker A: That's not getting done behind some dysfunctional teams too. Speaker B: Yeah, I do appreciate this group's got people who have a pretty good understanding of other layers of tech. Because I've been. I've worked with other people on startup land that they, like, they learned databases or they learned AI and they don't know anything about tech underneath that. It's just, they download a piece of software and, oh, AI comes out and it's like, do you have any appreciation for how the language model was created? The map behind that GPU and the software, the Cuda, like all this, like the CPU and the RAM and how those things interconnect. Like, no understanding that it's really hard to work with people that have zero appreciation for that. I'm okay if you don't understand it all, but have some appreciation so that when it comes time to troubleshoot, you're like, oh, I need to get a resource that knows how to do X, Y, Z. Some of the best X of people you can actually build here. Speaker C: Many. It's not as bad now, but there's times like once a week, someone be like, I lost all my stuff. I would back it up. Or like. Or someone be like, I'm making changes to my project. Like, how do I like, back stuff up and, like, have source control, right? Speaker B: And they're like, what? That was one of my. What's good? Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. One of the. One of my game companies I worked with. I mean, it's just two guys, but they were doing the classic version A copy, version B on their, like, desktop, basically. Like, you guys know what source control is? They're like, go. They're like, let me blow your mind. Speaker B: Yeah, right? Once you do it, you can't go back. You're like. Speaker C: And then it was. And then their mind was blown because it's like, oh, you can just like, branch. And now you have your dev stuff, since you can mess everything up. But Garrett, not worry. Speaker B: About that was in Git, you have what are called runners that do, like, jobs for you. They might compile software or do things around or whatever, and then they'll produce artifacts that people can download or push to a system. But those runners, you can host them yourself or you can have them hosted with GitHub and we'll just run them. Well, I was looking at our build and I was like, one day the bill just went up by like 3 or $4,000 between bills, like in a month. And I was like, what the heck? So I go and I look at it and we have 30 people in this thing. Like, there's a lot of people and it's not cheap. And we're like an enterprise account. We have security features and stuff enabled. So it's like, it's an expensive account, but $3,000, still not a slot, but it was about $3,400. It was just this one new machine. They stood up because they were running into where people were queuing up jobs. And this one system couldn't handle it. So somebody with access was like, oh, I'll just choose like this really Haas Runner system from GitHub. And they happen to have the access to do it because they're one of the headshed people and they're like, oh, they just need a better runner. They didn't talk to us, they just enabled it. So I'm telling the ops people, like, talk to that guy because he says that's what we should do. Here's my solution and how we can get around it. But until then, we're paying an extra three to four thousand dollars a month. Speaker A: The bill goes to him. Speaker B: But sometimes it's like, how many thousands of dollars do we lose in dead time not getting this done? And then we'll figure out the cheaper solution later. And you technically operationally save Money. You just don't ever realize it in your bank account. It's just you would have eked out more time. Speaker A: Yeah. Speaker B: So I wouldn't say it's the wrong decision, but stuff like that happens all the time where you're like, why did this bill go out? Oh, okay. Now we got a thing to fix, though. After that, the rest of the devs are, like, happy. Oh, apparently somebody fixed it. Like, now. They didn't fix it. They just moved the problem to two months from now. Speaker A: You know, when that budget goes out, there's nothing left. Yeah, we'll circle around for that. Speaker C: Yeah. Speaker B: But the team's smart. Speaker C: It's a. To work with it. Speaker B: It's been just more of a struggle lately because we were pushing the pedal to them. Speaker C: Yeah. Speaker A: I'm still waiting. I'm hoping I retire before they finally get around to letting users change their passwords. They've been talking about that for, like over 20 years before I left. And then with COVID they got funds and they go, fisher. Speaker B: Well, we got that system pushed all the way to the end where it was going to go out, and then they didn't use it. I left. I didn't use it. And they replaced it. Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Speaker B: It just blew my mind. Speaker A: No, I. There's some projects I really don't hope they finish because I don't want to deal with the implementation because it takes so long to implement it. Speaker C: Yeah. Speaker B: By the time that was all done, that was probably a $50 or $60,000 project, I believe, that didn't get used. Maybe more. Speaker A: Yeah. Speaker B: If you include like all the staff time. This, for some reason, reminds me of Fisher Price. Kind of. But remember the. I forget the name of them. Speaker C: The other one, it's like the mobile or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Apparently based on the system called like the Barbarians of Luminora or something like that. Leon. Nora. It's supposed to be a. I mean it seems like a really neat system. It's a 2D6 similar, not. Not quite apocalypse but 2D6 space system. But that seems. Everything is. Seems really smooth so far. And then the blood sundown setting is their weird west. And that one is really good. Really neat looking. I don't. I think. I think Steve's character might be the only one that might be a little different just because you're I guess the kid in translating it. Speaker A: Didn'T have to improv a lot but it. I think it was worth it. Speaker C: And then so this is just one thing I've noticed and I don't know if it's. It's probably just been the last couple sessions but I did a silencer reducer on our audio and it's off because I've listened to bits and pieces of it and it does clip sentences off because I can't change the reducer but it does end up cutting out like 90 minutes. It reduces the recorded audio by like 90 minutes. Speaker B: If we. Speaker C: Wow. If I reduce. Remove silences. So. So just as a table let's try and do better about consistently making noise. Yeah. Just. And having like pauses. Yeah. That's how this replacement. I'll just try find the good decibel level and then put it and just replace it with fart noises. The dec. Yeah. Speaker C: And then it, like, is turns and is, like, running up to you, and you see, like, tentacles starting to, like, come out from underneath its bottom, like, reaching for you. Speaker C: No. The horse would be able to keep up with it, but a human would be hard to keep up with it. But it's moving pretty quick. So Audrey, what do you do? See, they siege the town essentially because they like the government, like circled like encircle and got them like forced into there and then circling them up and then they're having a fight, basically because the crime families were trying to, like, challenge the government. But it wasn't too long after the fighting started that, like, specter started rising out of the corpses. Speaker B: And they don't like holy water. Speaker C: That'll dissipate them for sure. Speaker D: Like silver bullet. Speaker C: But you'll either need to be. You either need to perform. Be able to perform exorcisms which none of you can ordained.
