(wilds, neutral, unsafe)
A land full of lush plant and animal wildlife with numerous sinkholes 150 meters deep on average. The sinkholes are a prevalent feature and contain lush habitats, although unique in both plant and animal due to the differences in light, water, and other critical aspects of the ecosystems. Large trees of many varieties exist, some being tall enough to have reached far up from the depths.
Sinkholes have served as gateway to dwarven strongholds or other bastions in the depths. Dwarves living here formerly lived much deeper and kept themselves apart from topside activities except to trade. Many clans dug deep for treasure or resources, finding themselves facing legendary horrors. While not entirely clear to topside folk what these horrors are precisely, it drove the Dwarves to live closer to the surface and seal off the depths to the best of their abilities.
Freelancers or bold clans may still spelunk at their own peril in hopes of riches, but these activities are tightly managed to protect their new homes from repeated history. Whatever was below was worse than fighting giants, so they have kept at bitter distance from topside forest giants, who were not receptive to dwarven foraging expedition and surface outposts. A strong hatred exists between Lowheart Forest dwarves and the giants who live above them.
One of the few non-bird creatures that travel between the underground areas and the topworld. The possess a natural climbing ability to an extent that makes them appear to be standing calmly on virtually nothing along hillsides, sheer cliffs, and slopes. They possess darkvision from their natural underground homes, but they venture above ground at night as nocturnal hunters. They prize eating fruits and inhabitants of the above-ground trees, as these are unavailable in the depths. Usually keeping to themselves, they will instantly become violent pack defenders if they perceive their home or territory to be threatened. They are fearless and fairly intelligent, being known to operate simple door handles or to figure out how to open windows.
